Responsible for departmental activities including staff, patient care services, and administrative responsibilities as delegated.
Manages processes effectively in regard to employee/patient safety.
Maintains required records, reports, statistics, logs, files and other documents as required, including but not limited to payroll, schedules and statu changes.
Maintains 24 hour accountability for department, making independent decisions to implement strategies and programs for patient care.
Delegates’ authority and accountability to staff to ensure optimal outcomes and staff engagement.
Evaluates effectiveness of unit department based programs and processes to ensure optimal outcomes.
Promotes a culture of process improvement by establishing unit/department based programs that supports the system’s process improvement goals.
Actively participates on system-wide or hospital-based teams.
Manages the unit/department effectively in regards to staffing and staff supervision.
Role Specific Responsibilities
Plans and implements programs in coordination with the manager to support positive patient outcomes. Quality and staff engagement in the department.
Serves as a liaison with the Medical Staff
Evaluates effectiveness of unit based clinical programs related to delivery of care and clinical practice.
Assist in preparation for TJC, IDPH, IPT and other regulatory agency surveys.
Monitors and responds to patient/family/physician expectations.
Serve as Pediatric Quality Coordinator for MHC
A member of the professional staff who has ongoing involvement in the care of pediatric patients shall be designated to serve in the role of the pediatric quality coordinator. The pediatric quality coordinator shall have a job description that includes the allocation of appropriate time and resources by the hospital. This individual may be employed in an area other than the emergency department and shall have a minimum of two years of pediatric critical care or emergency department experience. Working with the pediatric physician champion, the responsibilities of the pediatric quality coordinator shall include:
Working in conjunction with the ED nurse manager and ED medical director to ensure compliance with and documentation of the pediatric continuing education of all emergency department professional staff in accordance with EDAP regulations.
Coordinating data collection for identified clinical indicators and outcomes (pediatric deaths, pediatric transfers, child abuse/neglect, critically ill or injured children in need of stabilization)
Reviewing selected pediatric cases transported to the hospital by pre-hospital providers and providing feedback to the EMS Coordinator/System.
Participating in regional QI activities, including preparing a written QI report and attending the Regional QI subcommittee meetings. These activities shall be supported by the hospital. One representative from the Regional QI subcommittee shall report to the EMS Regional Advisory Board.
Providing QI information to the Department upon request.
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or within 2 years of hire
Current Illinois Registered Nurse Professional License
ACLS, NRP,PALS,ENPC,TNCC,TNS if applicable
Technical Experience: 4 years clinical in related field
