  • Overview

    Responsible for coordinating system wide disaster preparedness and response plan in accordance with both state and federal regulation. Provides disaster preparedness training, conducts drills and prepares emergency plans and procedures.


    Role Specific Responsibilities
    o Actively participate in Hospital surveys, regulatory and/or consultative
    o Directly responsible for the development and implementation of hospital and/or system-wide action plans for EM regulatory standard compliance and identified deficiencies.
    o Participate in annual self-assessment of the Intracycle Monitoring (ICM) for The Joint Commission at Herrin Hospital and Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
    o Accountable for regulatory compliance as applicable to Emergency Management standards
    o Chair Emergency Management Committees and provide guidance and support to the hospital-based EM coordinators
    o Maintain current knowledge of the regulatory environment. Update system leadership accordingly.
    o Serve as a resource to hospital safety officers and Environment of Care Coordinator for the development of policies and procedures.
    o Design, develop, coordinate and implement hospital-wide annual decontamination training
    o Complete annual hazard vulnerability analyses with community involvement for all SIH hospitals
    o Participate in community emergency response exercises
    o Develop and maintain the SIH Emergency Management Plan and ensure the plan meets regulatory standards.
    o Design, develop, coordinate and implement hospital-wide and site specific training for emergency management per regulatory requirements.
    o Design, develop, and coordinate Hospital-wide Emergency Preparedness Drills per regulatory requirements.
    o Participate with internal and external task forces, committees, and agencies regarding emergency preparedness including those at the
    hospital, local, regional, and state levels.
    o Investigate, research, and make recommendations regarding best practices with respect to emergency preparedness.

    Develop and oversee after action reports and improvement plans.
    o Ensure that the Emergency Management Call Lists are up to date and functional, conduct quarterly reviews and verification of hospital call lists, and publish updates.
    o Responsible for coordinating and summarizing all capital and significant operational requests to support emergency preparedness.
    o Complete annual inventory of disaster equipment and supplies
    o Coordinate and propose resources needed to support emergency preparedness


    • Bachelor's degree in health discipline, exercise design, public information officer or business continuity required.
    • Emergency Management Training certification preferred.
    • Five years of experience in a healthcare environment preferred
    • Three years of exprience with The Joint Commission, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services CoPS, Department of Public Health Regulastions, OSHA, or EPA and CDC required.
