$37.16/hr minimum - $55.75 maximum (range increases based on education, experience and certifications)

Responsible for promoting health and prevention of illness due to communicable diseases and hospital associated infections and for submitting, verifying infection prevention, control of abstracted data for the infection prevention and control measure sets and/or other infection prevention and control data assigned in a timely manner that meets required deadlines.

Job Roles

  • Safety
    • Manages processes effectively regarding employee/patient safety.
  • Record Keeping
    • Maintains all required records, reports, statistics, logs, files, and other documents as required.
  • Process Improvement
    • Promotes a culture of process improvement by participating in unit/department-based programs that supports the system’s process improvement goals.
    • Actively participates on system-wide or hospital-based teams as needed.
  • Role Specific Responsibilities
  • Maintains 24-hour accountability for department, making independent decisions to implement strategies and programs for patient care.
  • Reviews antibiogram and collaborates with clinical pharmacist.
  • Implements the Infection Prevention and Control Program including but not limited to surveillance activities to identify healthcare associated infections, patient education, implementation and monitoring of compliance of evidence-based practices, monitoring of sterilization/disinfection activities, and assessment of construction and renovation projects.
  • Delegate authority and accountability to staff to ensure optimal outcomes and staff engagement.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of unit/department-based programs and processes to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Conducts environmental rounds and assures compliance with regulatory and/or professional standards.
  • Performs rounds in the facility to observe and monitor compliance with Infection Prevention and Control policies and procedures.
  • Develops the annual Infection Prevention Plan and Risk Assessment and ongoing evaluation of the program.
  • Meets requirements of accrediting and regulatory agencies including reporting necessary data as required.
  • Serves as a consultant to hospital and medical staff.

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate degree in nursing
  • BSN preferred.

 

Licenses and Certification

  • Current Illinois RN License
  • CIC within two years

 

Experience and Skills

  • Technical Experience:  5years acute care experience
  • Infection prevention experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office application (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Clinical chart review and abstraction experience preferred.
