$16.00/hr minimum - $32.50/hr maximum (range increases based on education, experience and certifications)

Responsibilities

Position Summary

  • Responsible for overseeing the day-to-operation of the Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP) site located at Southern Illinois Healthcare.

Job Roles

  • Safety
    • Manages processes effectively in regard to employee/patient safety. 
  • Record Keeping
    • Maintains all required records, reports, statistics, logs, files and other documents as required.
  • Process Improvement
    • Promotes a culture of process improvement by participating in unit/department based programs that supports the system’s process improvement goals.
    • Actively participates on system-wide or hospital-based teams as needed.
  • Role Specific Responsibilities
    • Coordinates the SHIP program, recruits, and oversees the activities of the volunteer counselor(s).
    • Maintains SHIP counselor certification and counsels Medicare beneficiaries with problems and questions about Medicare, Medicare supplement plans, Medicare Part D, Medicare managed care and long term care insurance.
    • Organizes and assists in filing claims for benefits and processing appeals to Medicare and Medicare supplement insurance companies.
    • Participates in SHIP marketing activities and serves as the Medicare educator for the Second Act membership programs.
    • Assist the SMP staff as needed with member services, grant process, and special projects.

Education

  • Associates Degree

Experience and Skills

  • Technical Experience: 2 years of experience with Medicare or related field
