$70,304/yr minimum - $105,425/yr maximum (range increases based on education, experience and certifications)

 

The Clinical Engineering Supervisor leads clinical engineering initiatives to provide superior customer service and operational efficiency by managing the execution of the Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP). This position assists the Clinical Engineering Director with all aspects of program management, including work history data analysis, staffing allocation, budget, equipment acquisition planning and outside vendor management. The Supervisor manages operations on a day-to-day basis, collaborates and maintains positive relationships with customers, works to develop colleagues. The Clinical Engineering Supervisor also assists with Joint Commission inspections and ensures services are in compliance with regulatory standards. This position may include a hands-on service component.

Responsibilities

Safety

  • Manages processes effectively in regard to employee/patient safety.

Record Keeping

  • Maintains all required records, reports, statistics, logs, files and other documents as required, including but not limited to payroll, schedules and status changes.

Department Management

  • Maintains 24 hour accountability for department, making independent decisions to implement strategies and programs for patient focus.
  • Delegate authority and accountability to staff to ensure optimal outcomes and staff engagement.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of unit/department based programs and processes to ensure optimal outcomes.

Process Improvement

  • Promotes a culture of process improvement by establishing unit/department based programs that supports the system’s process improvement goals.
  • Actively participates on system-wide or hospital-based teams.

Staffing

  • Manages the unit/department effectively in regards to staffing and staff supervision.

Role Specific Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge and experience of technology and/or equipment to oversee site operations and provide direction to others
  • Motivate others through praise, recognition and rewards
  • Conduct semi-annual and annual technician performance evaluations
  • Coach/mentor technicians by providing feedback on performance including corrective action of team members
  • Participates in the hiring process of new employees
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers by employing interpersonal and conflict management skills.
  • Use policies and standard operating procedures as a guide and is expected to apply sound judgement in day-to-day activities
  • Supervise inspections and make sure open work orders are made a priority and that performance assurance inspections are documented
  • Support and make recommendations on continuous improvement initiatives and work with the Director to implement identified corrective actions
  • Advise users of equipment status and ensure all service and documentation is complete, timely and accurately
  • Serves on hospital committees such as but not limited to, Environment of Care (EOC) and emergency management.
  • Supervises daily schedules and on-call functions/rotations
  • Spends approximately 25% of time as a working technician (a working leader)

Qualifications

Education

  • Associates degree or equivalent military experience required in the Biomedical Electronics Field;
  • Bachelor's degree preferred

 Licenses and Certification

  • CBET, CRES, CLES or CCE preferred

Experience and Skills

  • Technical Experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience working with biomedical equipment in a clinical engineering environment
  • Supervisor Experience: 3 years’ experience leading/managing in a clinical engineering environment preferred
